If you've been clinging to the belief that the action-RPG from Japan, Blue Protocol, would eventually debut in western markets, it might be time to relinquish that notion. It has just been disclosed that the worldwide release of the game is no longer happening, and it will also be shutting down definitively in Japan during the following year.

An announcement on the blog states: "It is with regret that we announce the termination of the Japanese version of Blue Protocol, effective from January 18, 2025.

"Consequently, we have withdrawn our intention to roll out the Western version in partnership with Amazon Games. We have valued a fruitful collaboration with Amazon Games throughout Blue Protocol’s creation, and it's with mutual disappointment that we acknowledge our inability to bring this game to an international audience."

The creators added a brief message to shed light on the situation, saying: "Ever since Blue Protocol's initial reveal, the excitement around it has been palpable. Our goal was to craft an experience akin to diving into an animated world, aspiring to build an environment where players could embark on adventures as if they were the protagonist of their own animated story. Despite our strenuous efforts toward the launch, we've ultimately determined that we can't deliver a service meeting everyone's expectations."
